Cynthia Carlson

Cynthia Carlson received a Masters of Architecture from SCI-Arc/Southern California Institute of Architecture in 1990. Prior to the establishment of CYNTHIA CARLSON ASSOCIATES in 2012, her professional experience included work on numerous high-end residential commissions, often in collaboration with noted interior designers, helping them to realize their built work. In 2010 she became part of DCM Dotterweich Carlson & Mehner, a separate architecture and design practice specializing in large commercial projects for technology clients, founded by her husband, Tiemo Mehner, 

Previously she spent seven years at Kerry Joyce Associates, Los Angeles, including three as Design Director, where she oversaw the design and construction of large custom estates.  Earlier in her career, Cynthia gained corporate experience at Skidmore Owings and Merrill and Keating Mann Jernigan Rottet. 

In 2011 she was approached by the actress Diane Keaton to collaborate on the design of a new residence in Los Angeles. Construction began in the summer of 2013 and was completed in 2017.  The house is Keaton’s first residential project to be built from the ground up and is the subject of her book, “The House that Pinterest Built” published by Rizzoili.
