Hancock Park Renovation, Los Angeles
The project is an extensive remodel of a 3,000 square foot residence located in the historic Hancock Park neighborhood of Los Angeles. The house was built in 1917 and the previous kitchen dated from the early 1990s. The design objective was to create a uniform formal language which pays homage to the period of the house while incorporating a more contemporary aesthetic suited to the owners’ tastes. A limited palette of materials and colors were used in variations throughout the house. Small but significant changes were made to the existing floor plans to create architectural cohesion and improve function and flow. Durable materials and finishes were chosen for a house filled with teenagers and dogs.
CYNTHIA Carlson received a national award from Sub-Zero Wolf in 2013 for the design of the kitchen for this project.
